QUARANTINE DIARIES

Living with someone has always been complicated, whether it’s your partner, your family, or your roommates… even living alone brings its difficulties. But now, all of a sudden and without warning, we are spending all our time, 24×7 with that person with whom we share life. Suddenly, every house in this country has become a version of Big Brother. This can last two weeks, two months, or more. We’ve gone from “I’m going to the pub” as an escape to….”I’m going to the kitchen!”. Right now, we are prisoners in our own homes, there is no escape, from our cell mates, even for a moment. Imagine if we were able to look through a hole in the wall to our neighbours or friend’s homes, we would probably be in hysterics at their moments of heightened tension, without realizing that ours are probably much worse. Well, imagine having access to their webcam which they left switched on by mistake. Would you warn them of their carelessness or would you stay and spy on them?…..Me too.

Quarantine Diaries is a realistic, intimate and fun reflection of co-living being pushed to its limit.  Every home is a world. Every building a universe. And in this universe, we have worlds shared by couples, by families with young children, by a grandmother and her grandson, by a divorced man… In every episode, we’ll jump from house to house, from life to life, as if we were a fly on the wall. This will not only make us witness to the problems faced by their confinements: who’s going to do the shopping? Who’s turn is it to decide what series to watch? Do we have to get up at a certain time or can we sleep in?… The arrival of the corona virus doesn’t mean that other illnesses have disappeared,  neither have everyday problems, such as: sex lives, intimacy, household chores, family life etc… in this series all the differences that will arise sooner or later; having decided to share one’s life with another person (or oneself) are suddenly compacted into a small space. These are situations that one has to understand how to manage in order for things to work.  Because these moments have and always will exist. We will enter into their lives, and witness how they deal with all these problems that once seemed so unimportant and which have now become the trigger for all disputes.

But don’t think that this series is a continuous showcase of arguments and screaming matches; not at all. It’s a comedy. A comedy created by an excess of tragedy, using a lot of dark humor. A humor that will arise from those inevitable discussions, those uncomfortable debates and the coping mechanisms used to tolerate each other. That’s what makes this series about stories realistic, funny and, above all, relatable. Allowing the viewer -in the midst of these tricky times- to do what is most needed, forgetting for a moment what is happening in the outside world, and laugh at what is going on in the inside.
